Halfpenny Home began with a meeting in an old soap factory in July 2009. The vision was to create a warm and welcoming haven for artists and crafters where they could meet, create and inspire each other.
Nicola’s background is in interior design, having made soft furnishings since 1987. She has been making stuff from a very early age. One of Nicola’s earliest memories is making soft toys with her mum.
Nicola’s other passions include riding her vintage trade bike as well as caring for her chickens and growing stuff on her allotment.
Nicola first met Jacqui through a fellow allotment holder, Lisa. Knowing both of them as well as she does Lisa felt that they would make a good team and introduced them!
Whilst Jacqui’s working background has been in finance she has always had a love of art and craft which started at an early age with the creation of the Blue Peter Theatre! Jacqui went part time in order to pursue her passion and has undertaken a number of courses in interior design and paint effects which led her to set up a small business selling her painted furniture under the name Nordic Heart.
Since opening, Halfpenny Home has become known as a place to get those hard to find notions, as well as providing workshops that are not only informative but are also a lot of fun! And of course, in amongst all of the lovely buttons and trimmings there’s almost always tea and homemade cake to welcome you!
